Water Route

The "Water Route" highlights the Subbética as a true water reserve, with its watercourses supplying the tributaries and sub-tributaries of the Guadajoz and Genil rivers, eventually joining the main river of Andalusia, the Guadalquivir. We will focus on those landscapes that, due to their special natural beauty, sports possibilities, or human intervention, are worth knowing. This route includes the following visits: Palenciana, a conditioned Forest Park along the river and the Barca trail that connects the towns of Palenciana and Benamejí. Benamejí, where numerous active tourism activities can be carried out in its river park, such as canyoning, kayaking, rafting, as well as bungee jumping from the Renaissance Bridge of Hernán Ruiz II. The Fountain of La Dehesilla, a recreational area located on the riverbank, also stands out. Encinas Reales, Genil River (village of Vadofresno); Iznájar, where the reservoir is located, the largest inland body of water in Andalusia. The town is practically an island emerging from the waters that surround it, connected to the mainland by bridges. Lastly, Rute, where the area of the 'jetty' stands out, an ideal spot for nature-based activities, as well as the gorge of the La Hoz river and the source of the Anzur river, near Zambra.
